In 1915, the Tucson Citizen reported that local developer John Murphey had purchased several thousand acres of property in the foothills of the Catalina Mountains to the north of town. The editors of the newspaper projected the purchase as "folly", an investment in worthless desert hillsides, never to be recovered. For John Murphey, it took just over a decade to prove his detractors wrong. By the end of the 1920s, homes were being built in the Catalina Foothills neighborhoods, and the distinctive Spanish Colonial and Mission Revival style buildings in the area began to take form. A short distance east of Campbell Avenue a building was built in 1926, possibly the first restaurant/cafe/tavern east of Oracle Road. The El Corral you dine in tonight is located in the same building (with some modifications of course). In 1939, the owner of El Corral Cafe, Leroy C. Perkins subdivided a quarter section of land into Los Ranches Perkins.

Many stars for the ambiance and location. 1 star for the prime rib. It was a Tuesday so I'm mindful of inventory, but if you're out of prime rib, please don't serve a raw meal. I've prepared dozens of prime rib for entertainment and purchased many more in restaurants in my life. The fat was still cold on two of three of our medium rare. One came out decent, oddly enough, while two were completely different and raw. I'm quite certain they weren't cut from the same roast. That's the gist of my first time there. Maybe I'll follow up on a Friday or Saturday because I give some benefit of the doubt, but still, if you're out of a dish, you're out. Offer the rib eye which is the same cut, or inform customers it'll be 45 more minutes.Correct me if I'm wrong but if the tap water is warmer than the roast, I wouldn't send it out. I did indeed send it back but it came out again with one side warmer, and you could see sime of the fat starting to melt, while the other side was still cold fat.

We came in at a really busy time on Friday night during the gem show. I called ahead to be put on some list, but we still waited 45 minutes to be seated. Service was good, steak was really good but not "wow" great. It's been a few years since I've been here and I remembered it to be spectacular. I did order medium rare but it didn't come too hot. Maybe just too busy of an evening. I will be back!

They have been in business for a very long time and know how to take care of all the hungry people that enter their doors. The service and food have always been excellent, no matter how busy they are. Fabulous Cowboy pictures and style. Their Prime Rib and Petite Filet are my favorite entrees We like to bring our visitors here because it's the real deal in the Arizona Territory ♡♡♡♡♡

It was a great little place to eat dinner and there was a little boutique in the parking lot that's worth going to see it has limited hours but the lady is so nice and they have fantastic items

Ribs and corn fritters were great. Salad was good too. Wasn't crazy about the white sangria, it had too much peach schnapps.

El Corral is a Tucson Institution and the place to go for Prime Rib and Old West ambiance. I have been here many times and only remember one bad experience and it was 12 years ago (every place is allowed one off day). Tonight's meal was back up to their usual standards, excellent meal, prime rib cooked to perfection.

It was delicious! !! Our waitress Carol was friendly and prompt. The only thing we didn't like was the bread. What happened to the Texas toast bread?

Quintessential Tucson steakhouse. Kitschy and fun with a well preserved Old West ambience. The prime was great, and the tamale pie is a must!

Exquisite food, service, ambience, and staff. Our food was divine, perfectly cooked. From the mashed potatoes to the prime rib...you could cut that meat with a butter knife. Sooooo good. The ribs also were wonderful. Had the Berry Cobbler which was also...amazing!!!! So hot and gooey and flavorful. Their cocktails are strong but well mixed and made. I went on a celebratory date and this place made our evening magical. The waitress was genuine and sweet, didn't pressure us and had great timing when it came to checking on us.

Great food tonight. Super friendly service. Great value for everything I ordered (ribs, potato, tamale pie, salad.... couldn't finish all of it). First time going tonight, but it won't be my last.

El Corral seems to be living on its storied past. It is an old Tucson favorite that's always busy and is known for its prime rib. Sadly, it's not what it once was. Over the last 4 years, we have given it the old college try at least 6 times, but El Corral has disappointed every time except once where the oyster appetizers were fantastic, one steak was good and the other OK. Even the prime rib hasn't been great. I'm finding the steaks tough and just not of the same quality as in (many) years past. The food at El Corral is not terrible, but it certainly isn't very good anymore. Service is still outstanding. I'll check back in a few years, but I no longer bring out-of-town guests here.

The waitress, Maria, she was awesome. Super quick, she knew what she was doing. The prime RIB was ordered as suggested and it was amazing. The portion was reasonable and loved the side. Great desert too! Heard great things about this place but now I know.

This is a great Tucson tradition. The Mesquite grilled meats taste fantastic. The specialized meats are suggested medium rare which are done very well. As a side, always go with Tamale Pie.

Food was good and the service was perfect. Imo, they need to repave their parking lot. Rough walking with regular soled shoes.

Been going for many years. Got the Tucson cut of prime with loaded baked potato, salad and tamale pie. Everything was very good. Wife got a sirloin and we split a BlackBerry cobbler with ice cream that was awesomely delicious!

This restaurant is great ! It is known for their wide variety of steak's but also has a diverse menu. They have several other menu choices for the non meat eating folk's. I suggest you try the salmon. The atmosphere is a type of westren style but the place is usually busy. Call for reservations if you can. Be prepared to wait outside for a table but it's Tucson and it's beautiful there. Have fun and enjoy!

A terrific historic restaurant located off River Rd. in Tucson. Specializing in steaks and prime rib, the ambiance has a southwestern warm kind of feeling. The service is fast and efficient and meals served with a smile. They have a full service bar including a wide variety of wines and beer. Love the sides they offer with each meal...make sure to try the Tamale Pie!

We had a not so good experience at this restaurant and I'm not kidding. I ordered the Ceasar salad and shrimp on 2 skewers. The salad had mostly dark green romaine leaves (not crunchy and fresh) bland Ceasar dressing which tasted forgettable. We had to send it back, since it was so terrible. The petite filet mignon was ok and the baked potato too.I Ordered the only hamburger available on the menu (med rare)and it arrived well done. I asked to remake my order but the next one was on the well done side again. We were Compt the burger and give a voucher for a free entree. (for next time?)Quite frankly, I would not return there since two very simple items on the menu could not be executed, to even minimum standards of expectations.

Hadn't been here in quite awhile. Still the same in a good way. Good food and atmosphere. I gave 4 stars because it's becoming dated, but that might just be part of the charm.

Food was good, service so so. Wait time was long during meal. Also we called ahead for a reservation and they never had a record of it when we arrived. We had too wait an extra 30 mins as well to be seated. Best seating areas closed off not sure why.

Normally everything has been perfect. However on a recent visit my Tbone was not up to their usual standards. The fillet portion was almost non-existent. I ordered it charred rare but it came out closer to medium with not much of a char. In the future I will go back to the ribeye which has never disappointed. They are also known for their prime rib and they're tamale pie that can be ordered as a side with your dinner.

This place is to be sooo good!, now unfortunately they have gone down hill, was very disappointed with the prime rib and definitely was poor. Prime rib was tough. Rubbery and flavor less. Service is good. They did try two bring me a different cut but same results. Sad day for Tucson.

Wow! These folks really know how to cook prime rib!!! Very busy, but we came early and got our food quickly. They also make great Sangria white or red. Pretty sweet though, so diabetics beware! Not cheap, but worth every cent!

Good but not great food. Tried this location after seeing their great sign in front at night. Started with their honey Italian dressing salad, which had little flavor and seemed like mostly water, although it looked really good. I had the prime rib, which was very good and my wife had the ribs, which were a bit dry. The rolls that came with dinner looked promising, but we're on the stale side. Overall an enjoyable meal, and the server was very nice.

Had a Christmas party for our golf group tonight. From start to finish, it was perfect! We had our own room, or own server (Gabe, who was AWESOME). The food was great, the service was impeccable. The process of setting up the reservation was easy. We will definitely be back next year!

I was very excited to eat here. It was my birthday and we made reservations. This place is awesome inside. I told the hosts my name and she said she would call us. We waited a good amount of time and my husband went and checked. She told him thay had no reservation but that a table was opening up. The food was good but our waitress was awful. She had a bad attitude and it took forever to get our food and drinks. I was sad and I don't think I will go back.

Ive been going to El Corral for 30 years and never been disappointed. The service is always top notch and the Prime Rib is even better! When you go, make sure everyone orders their dinner salad with house dressing and they'll toss it tableside for you. And watch out for their fresh ground horseradish; it'll bring tears to your eyes (literally)!
